ABOUT SIZZLA KALONJI

Reggae & Dancehall | Jamaica

Sizzla Kalonji is one of Jamaica's most influential and prolific Reggae and Dancehall artists, recognized for his powerful vocal delivery, spiritually driven lyrics and significant contribution to the conscious reggae movement.

Born Miguel Orlando Collins on April 17, 1976, in St. Mary, Jamaica, Sizzla was raised in August Town, Kingston. Growing up in a Rastafarian household, he developed a strong connection to African heritage, spirituality and social consciousness, themes that would later become central to his music.

MUSICAL JOURNEY

Sizzla began developing his musical talents during his teenage years, gaining early experience with the Caveman Hi-Fi sound system. His career took a significant step forward during the 1990s through his association with renowned Jamaican producer Philip "Fatis" Burrell and the Xterminator label.

His breakthrough came with the release of Praise Ye Jah and Black Woman & Child in 1997. These influential albums helped establish him as a leading voice in the cultural reggae movement, combining traditional roots reggae messages with contemporary Dancehall rhythms.

His distinctive singing and deejaying style, ranging from rapid-fire lyrical delivery to emotional melodies, helped him reach audiences across Jamaica and internationally.
